A varied Harlequin romance collection is now available to everyone as Harlequin celebrates 60 years of "pure reading pleasure".

Harlequin is turning 60, and they are celebrating by giving away books that highlight the company's different collections. Kindle readers downloaded the books earlier, and were introduced to the huge variety of books that Harlequin offers.

How to Download Free Harlequin Books

Harlequin has made the free books extremely accessible in the Eharlequin store's "Our Gift to You" section. It is not necessary to download all of the books, because visitors to the site can pick and choose what they want to download. Registration is not necessary; click a file, and the .pdf automatically opens up in Adobe.

A Brief Introduction to the Free Books

The free e-books include the dramatic covers and additional information about similar books by the author. People who have never read an e-book or a book on a computer might be surprised at how familiar and easy it is to e-read.

The Passion Collection Review

The passion Collection is the stereotypical romance novel, complete with ripped clothes. Readers who find traditional romance novels mind-numbing should avoid this set of books.

Baby Bonanza by Maureen Child is a strange romance novel. The main character is perpetually angry, and some form of the words "damn" and "hell" are used almost 100 times in the short book.

Slow Hands by Leslie Kelly is a typical romance novel; there is more passion than substance. Maddy bid on Jake at a charity ball, and they are quickly enveloped in a passionate power-play.

Price of Passion by Susan Napier shows New Zealand's Harlequin side. Drake and Kate are thrown together by Kate's insistence, and they discover that despite their conflicts, they match superficially (which is as deep as either character goes).

Irresistible Forces by Brenda Jackson offers the bizarre possibility of a "procreation vacation", when two people have a romantic vacation just to make a baby. The book shows two people who want money and children without each other, until they discover that they also want love.

The Suspense and Paranormal Collection Review

The element of mystery in these books make them feel like regular easy reads with an unusual amount of beautiful people.

Hide in Plain Sight by Marta Perry is a book with strong Christian elements. The two characters must solve a mystery as they grow closer to God, and each other.

Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch by B.J. Daniels is a good mystery. Readers will be intrigued by the possible suspects after a ranch woman learns a body has been stuck in her well for many years. Romance enters when her former fiance helps her investigate.

Kiss Me Deadly by Michelle Hauf is Harlequin's answer to Twilight. The book focuses on the conflicting loyalties of vampires and lovers.

Stranded with a Spy by Merline Lovelace is another mystery, but one that is not as compelling as the mysteries in Hide in Plain Sight and Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch. Mallory wants to escape American reporters by hiding in France, but she can't hide from the government agent assigned to her case. There is a nice display of luxury.

The Home and Family Collection Review

Of all of the books, the Home and Family Collection seem the least contrived, because love and romance are the foundations of home and family, but silliness abounds.

In Once A Cowboy by Linda Warren, a private investigator helps a cowboy learn the truth about his biological family. The book has some humorous subplots with a dramatic grandmother.

Dancing in the Moonlight by Raeanne Thayne brings two people together after they have spent a long time apart, and Dr. Jake Dalton finds time for love as Magdalena Cruz returns home.

Snowbound by Janice Kay Johnson is a romantic book that seems like a literary novel. This is one book that will cause readers to wonder, "Is this really a Harlequin book?" A teacher and her students are stranded in the mountans with a soldier facing PTSD issues.

The Romance Collection Review

Like the Passion Collection, these books have elements that are too strange for non-Harlequin regulars.

The Bride's Baby by Liz Fielding requires an event planner to pretend she is a bride at her former lover's home.

A Very Special Delivery by Linda Goodnight throws Molly and Ethan together when he needs childcare to allow him to go help a sick man.

Speed Dating by Nancy Warren is a fun read that seems almost like a tv movie. There is a good deal of humor as an actuary adapts to the world of racing.

The Historical Collection Review

The books are historically inclined, but the romance is modern and, if one gets too specific about focusing on the history, it is easy to find some anachronisms.

His Lady Mistress by Elizabeth Rolls takes place ... a long time ago. A Cinderella-esque character is rescued by a handsome hero, who falls in love with her and then, through a frustrating contrived plot by Rolls, falls out of love with her for silly reasons.

Homespun Bride by Jillian Hart is similar to Snowbound; the book does not feel like a romance novel. It feels more like Little House on the Prairie than Harlequin. The book is a sweet love story for Christians.

The books are available as pdf files, which can be converted by the Amazon Kindle and other e-book readers. They are also available as MS Reader, Epub, and Ereader downloads. While the book are not classic literature, the variety offers something for many women who like a love story that is an easy read. The books are divided into collections of passion, suspense and paranormal, home and family, romance, and historical romance fiction.
